Paphos Was For Us

Holidays are cool. They’re a privilege…without a shadow of a doubt.

But do you know what’s better? Rest.

So Paphos was for sun, sea and rest. For dawdling through the streets and the mall as opposed to trying to conquer every tourist attraction in the vicinity.

It was for posing to take portraits for minutes on end in front of beautiful scenery, while onlookers watched bemused.

It was for beautiful orange and lazy sunsets eating kebabs, drinking cider, and chatting into the night.

It was meeting up with friends from home and bringing West and East Africa together in the Mediterranean.

It was for going to the beach, lying on a sunbed and sleeping, reading or listening to music.

It was for strong beach cocktails and shoeless walks into the ocean.

It was for not thinking too much, sleeping lots and appreciating the beauty of the earth God has made.

It was for escaping home, yet somehow inextricably going to a version of home, with it’s English-food based restaurants, English speakers and English expats.

It was for a luscious resort, and swimming and sunbathing and turning browner and browner and browner as the sun delighted in the pores of our skin.

Paphos was for us.
